7. Flight Time Barbie (1989)
Barbie and countless jobs over the years must have had a nod in Barbie and the movie we really want to see is any iteration of her as a pilot – but if we could get that costume? All the better. Just look at that skirt! It’s floppy, it’s fun, and it has a cute little scarf. But, of course, the best reason to nod at Barbie as the pilot is Margot Robbie who starred in the short-lived TV series. Pan Am in 2011 where she played flight attendant Laura Cameron. Sure, there’s an old Pan Am flight attendant Barbie…but this outfit is so cute we think Barbie deserves to be a pilot. After all, there was that awesome Barbie ad campaign back in the day… “We girls can do anything.”
6. Barbie’s Dream Date (1982)
sequins? ruffles? belt statement? See that you can customize? This doll has it all and is one of Barbie’s most glamorous and creative looks – which means we totally need her in a Barbie movie. Just look at it. She screams “Put me on the big screen”. There are no reviews.
5. Peaches N Cream Barbie (1985)
Another ’80s classic—the ’80s was just a very good year for Barbie styles—this might just be one of the most beloved looks of all time. She even got the Funko POP treat. A gorgeous peach gown with a ruffled stole and that little rose at the waist? Class is pure. In a world of pink, please let Barbie Margot Robbie have a little peach, we beg you.
4. Barbie the Great Figure (1983)
If you’re a fan of Toy Story, this image might sound familiar because her look in the movie was inspired by the 1983 Great Shape Barbie doll. It’s an iconic ’80s look with the blue jumpsuit, pink belt, and striped leg warmers. She came with little pink ballet slippers, a duffel bag, and a “The World of Barbie Fashion” booklet — and there was a whole training center set to get her hands on. As seen in the Barbie movie teaser, much of Barbie’s world is represented in pink plastic. There should be a gym, right? It will be great to see this beloved iconic look – which for many girls was their first Barbie moment – come to life.
3. Barbie Full Hair (1992)
Released in 1992, Barbie had extra-long hair that reached her toes (and she came with her own Gel Dip with the original version of the doll) but while the hair alone is iconic, we’re here for the fashion. She came in a long sleeve dress with some graphic designs in neon psychedelic colors which looks amazing. Since we’ve already seen an outfit inspired by Hot Skatin’ Barbie in the photo set, why not complete the neon look with this look? After all, this doll is one of the best-selling Barbies of all time.
2. Barbie From Day To Night (1985)
Originally released in 1985, Barbie Day to Night was a celebration of women in the workplace during that era, coming with a pink bodysuit and some “business” accessories like a pink bag and calculator. But the outfit also came with a hat, bonus shoes, and a stylish purse so Barbie can go from the office to happy hour. It’s a classic look that, honestly, is still pretty cool today.
1 – The Original Black and White Striped Swimsuit (1959)
This is one we can tick off the list because, thanks to the first trailer for the movie, we knew we were getting it. However, prior to this teaser, this will likely be the must-have outfit when it comes to the movie. When Barbie was first officially introduced to the world on March 9, 1959, she was presented wearing a strapless black and white swimsuit and wearing a pair of white cat-eye sunglasses. She’s a timeless look, just like the doll herself and is instantly recognizable as a Barbie—perhaps more so than her signature pink hue.
